Common questions about PokeCharting and how to use it.
PokeCharting applies cryptocurrency-style valuation metrics to graded Pokemon cards. We translate proven on-chain analysis frameworks (MVRV Z-Score, Rainbow Charts, Power Law regression, and more) into the collectibles domain, giving collectors and investors analytical tools that never existed for this market.
Our dataset includes 144,000+ PSA auction records scraped from public sources, supplemented by daily automated pulls from the PriceCharting API. All data represents actual completed sales, not asking prices.
We currently cover the complete 1999 Base Set across all editions: 1st Edition, Unlimited, and Shadowless. We plan to expand to all Pokemon sets over time.
The MVRV Z-Score compares the current market price to the historical rolling median. A Z-Score above 2 suggests a card is overvalued relative to its history, while below -1 suggests it may be undervalued. It helps identify potential buying and selling opportunities.
The Rainbow Chart uses logarithmic regression to divide price history into colored bands from 'Fire Sale' (blue) through 'Fair Value' (green) to 'Bubble' (red). It provides a visual sense of where the current price sits relative to long-term trends.
Price data is updated daily via automated API pulls. PSA population reports are updated monthly. Historical auction data is refreshed periodically.
We track all PSA grades from 1 through 10, including half grades (1.5, 2.5, etc.) where data is available. You can filter charts by any grade or compare multiple grades side by side.
The PokeTCGIndex is a cap-weighted aggregate of all 102 Base Set cards. Each card's contribution is weighted by its estimated market cap (latest median price multiplied by PSA population). Sub-indices for Holos and Commons/Uncommons are also available.
